13th   SIST Missiological Symposium – Second day update

                                                        

The second day of the symposium is a continuation of the inquiry into naming God in African inculturation theology as derived from the problems which the symposium seeks to address. This session witnessed an inquiry exploring  various  tools of inquiry.
 

Beginning with a philosophical approach , Fr Prof Josephant Obi  Oguejiofor examined The influence of the Basic structure of African Traditional Religion on Christianity; while Prof .J.D Okoh attempts A reconciliation between Christianity and African Traditional Religion.

 

The discussion further extended to a hermeneutical/Biblical exegesis in which two renowned biblical scholars  Sr. Dr. Jerome Obira IHM and Fr. Dr Ernest Ezeogu C.S.Sp reflected around the biblical foundation of Christian monotheism and the African origin of Jesus: An AFrocentic Reading of Matthew’s infancy Narrative (mat1-2). The morning session ended with Lunch and free period.

 

The evening session saw the contributions by two renowned theologians. Rev.Fr Prof Henri Jerome Gagey of the Institute Catholigue Paris discussed Thinking God differently: Christian theology and post-modernity; while Fr Prof Anthony Akinwale of the Domincan Institute Ibandan examined African theology and Dogmatic Responsibility for the Christian God.
