14th SIST Missiological Symposium – Second day update
Today, the second day of the symposium, presentation and discussion continued on the theme of Spirits: Ocultism, Principalities and powers.
To begin, Prof. Bradford Hinze presented a paper titled: Talking back, Acting
Up: Wrestling with Spirits in Social Bodies.
The discussion further extended to a hermeneutical/Biblical exegesis in which a renowned biblical scholar Sr. Dr. Mary-Sylvia Nwachukwu DDL reflected on, A biblical Perspective on Spirits, Demons, Principalities and Powers. . Shortly after this paper, Rev. Fr. Michael Emeka Onwuama examined The Epistemological Bases of the Belief in the Occult and Paranormal and the Implications of this Belief System in Nigeria. The morning session ended with Lunch and free period.
The evening session saw the pneumatological dimension of the discussion in which a famous Systematic Theologian, Rev. Fr. Dr. Bona Ikenna Ugwu did justice to the topic: The Holy Spirit in Catholic Theology and Life and the Challenges of Spiritual and Occultic Powers in the World Today.
The pastoral dimension was the next on line. This took the shape of a panel discussion, which saw the contributions of two experienced pastoral Ministers: Rev. Fr. Dr. Fidelis Egbunu and Rev. Fr. Emeka Agujobi, on the topic: The Power of the Christian over Spirits, Occult Manipulations, Principalities and Powers
The second day of the symposium came to a end with a synthesis of all the papers presented by the co-ordinator Rev. Fr. Dr. Charles Ebelebe C.S.Sp, Rev. Fr. Dr. Bede Ukwuije C.S.Sp and Sr. Dr. Mary-Sylvia Nwachukwu DDL.
